Men’s Heart Calcium Tests At Christus Mother Frances-Sulphur Springs

By Kayla Price, Hopkins County Health Care Foundation

What Does a Heart Calcium Test Involve?

It is always intimidating to have a new medical test scheduled. Will it hurt? Is it invasive? How long will it take?

The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation aims to demystify heart calcium scans. These scans are painless, with the only discomfort being if you struggle to lie on your back for ten minutes. They are non-invasive, involving just a few electrodes on your chest and a brief moment of holding your breath. The entire process, including the 10-minute scan, takes about 30 minutes. The benefits of this scan, which can detect early signs of heart disease, far outweigh any temporary discomfort.

Even better, the CT Scanner doesn’t make most people feel claustrophobic. A patient enters the tiny scanner feet first, and the scan focuses on the chest area. They do not strap the patient down. The staff is gracious and professional, and the scan results are sent to you and your doctor quickly.

Act now to take advantage of this limited-time offer! The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is providing a unique opportunity for sixty men in Hopkins County to receive a free heart calcium scan.  If you’re between 40 and 60 and have one or more risk factors, such as obesity, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, you’re eligible for this potentially life-saving scan.

We are scheduling scans for July. To reserve an appointment, call 903-439-4040, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Income from Mingo and direct donations from individuals is funding this project of the Health Care Foundation. It is the first Foundation offering targeting men’s health. For several years, the Foundation has offered a free mammography clinic and In My Closet, which provides free wigs, breast prosthetics, and more to Hopkins County women battling breast cancer.

The Foundation is an IRS 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization. Its funds solely benefit Hopkins County citizens’ health.
