High School Hoops Scores Plus Stars Drop Another OT Game

 

Paris – Last night the Paris Wildcat soccer team added a 1-nil win over Anna. Colin Harris netted the lone goal, with an assist from Seth Hudgins.

The 16th ranked Wildcat basketball team improved to 4-0 in district with a 76-66 win over Liberty Eylau on the road. The Paris Lady Cats fell 55-54. The Chisum Mustangs and Lady Mustangs beat Como Pickton. The boys win 57-42 while the Lady Mustangs prevail 57-30. North Lamar suffered a sweep at the hands of Pleasant Grove, with the Pantherette’s losing 65-33. The boys fall 51-41. And the Prairiland Patriots lost a pair of hard fought games to Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill, 66-55 on the boys side and 68-58 on the girls.

Mount Pleasant – District play in high school hoops continued last night. The 25th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers beat Hallsville 95-62 for their 10th straight win, improving to 7-0 in district 16-5A. Ranked number 25 in class 3A, the Chapel Hill Red Devils and the 14th ranked Lady Devils win hard fought games over Prairiland. The boys would pull away in the second half, 66-55 to keep their perfect district record in tact at 7-0. The Lady Devils improve to 7-2 after their 68-58 victory. And the Pittsburg Pirate’s are 3-1 in district 14-4A, beating Atlanta last night 46-38.

Sulphur Springs – District play resumed last night for area basketball teams. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats survive a scare in double overtime, defeating Pine Tree 66-56. The Wildcats outscored the Pirates 12-2 in the 2nd OT and move to 7-1 in district 16-5A. The 18th ranked Lady Cats, winners of 17 straight, blow out the Pine Tree girls 70-27 to maintain their perfect district record at 10-0. The 6th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers dismantle the Cooper Dogette’s 73-37 to move to 8-0 in 13-3A. The Mt. Vernon boys won 77-36, bringing their district record to 6-1. And the Commerce Tigers, ranked 18th in class 3A, take down Leonard 45-36.

Number one, number two and number four suffered upsets last night in college hoops. Top ranked Villanova squandered a big lead, falling to Marquette 74-72. And the 2nd ranked Jayhawks lost to number 18 West Virginia 85-69. And the Tennessee Volunteers hang on to beat number four Kentucky 82-80.

The Dallas Mavericks have the night off tonight before returning to action tomorrow against the New York Knicks. The Mavs are in last place in the Southwest division standings at 15-29, while the Knicks have had struggles of their own at 20-26. Tip off tomorrow night at the American Airline Center in Dallas is at 7:30.

And the Dallas Stars survive the overtime period, but lose to Minnesota in a shootout 3-2. Patrick Eaves and Jamie Benn scored the shootout goals for Dallas. The OT loss give the Stars 48 points on the season, where they sit in fifth place in the Central Division.
