The Texas Rangers free agent target Anthony Rendon has agreed to sign with divisional rival LA Angels. The third baseman signed a 7 year, $245-million contract. The 29-year-old Rendon joins an Angels lineup that already features the likes of reigning AL MVP Mike Trout, two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani, and outfielder Justin Upton.
Today on the basketball court, the Paris and Clarksville boys will play in the New Boston tournament. The North Lamar boys are in the Highway 5 tournament.
Chisum will join Honey Grove in the Honey Grove tournament. The Prairiland boys play in the North Hopkins tournament. The Cooper and Detroit boys will play in the Rivercrest tournament. While the Rivercrest and Detroit girls play in the Sulphur Bluff tournament.
Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball student-athletes Shelley Chapron and Sydney Andersen have been named American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Americans, as announced Tuesday. Chapron was named a Third Team All-American, while Andersen was named All-American Honorable Mention.
The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team has continued its ascent up the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll, coming in as the No. 10 ranked team in the nation in this week’s poll. The Lions are a top-10 ranked team for the first time in their history and make the program’s tenth appearance in the WBCA poll in history. The Lions have begun the 2019-20 campaign with an 8-0 record, which is the program’s best start in history.
Tonight the Dallas Mavericks play the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City. Dallas is currently third in the western conference with a 16-7 record.
Colorado State has hired former Boston College and Temple coach Steve Addazio as its new head coach. Addazio, fired Dec. 1 after seven seasons at Boston College, replaces Mike Bobo at Colorado State. The school also considered Alabama analyst Butch Jones and Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson for the job.
Florida Atlantic is finalizing an agreement to hire Willie Taggart as its next coach. Taggart was fired last month at Florida State after only 21 games as Seminoles’ coach. He replaces Lane Kiffin, who left Saturday to become head coach at Ole Miss. Kiffin guided Florida Atlantic to a Conference USA championship this past season, as well as another league title in 2017.
In Thursday Night Football tonight, the New York Jets head to Baltimore for a game against the Ravens at 7:20 pm on FOX. Houston is at the Titans Sunday at noon on CBS, and the Cowboys host the Rams at 3:25 pm on FOX.
Cornerback Janoris Jenkins tweeted a disparaging remark in response to a critical fan Wednesday while the New York Giants were on the practice field.Jenkins was not practicing because of an ankle injury. He was defending his play this season while his teammates were on the field.. Giants Coach Pat Shurmur was not pleased with his player’s tweets.
In a season in which they’ve employed four kickers on the active roster, the New England Patriots added an unusual layer of insurance at the position Wednesday by signing Josh Gable — who never played college football — to their practice squad. Gable, 29, played professional soccer in Italy and Belgium before returning to the United States in 2016 to kick for the Nebraska Danger, Iowa Barnstormers and Tucson Sugar Skulls in the Indoor Football League. But Gable is probably best known for the trick-shot kicks he has posted on social media.
