New Law Will Aid Released Inmates

A newly signed law makes it easier for former inmates to re-enter society. House Bill 569 erases fines and fees for the recently released. The bill’s author, Republican Scott Sanford of Collin County, says a misdemeanor proceeds a person’s prison sentence. The bill had bipartisan support. It’s called the Bonton Farms Bill. Its namesake is a South Dallas farm and cafe hiring newly released people for ten years. Their founder says not one person hired has been sent back to prison.
