New Signal Lights Are Going Up

Signal lights to be upgraded at four NE Texas intersections with other safety features being added.

ATLANTA – Four intersections in Northeast Texas will have improvements made to their traffic control systems this year, according to plans approved in June by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be upgrading the signal lights at all four intersections and will be adding crosswalks, safety lighting, and advance warning signs at some of the intersections,” said Rebecca Wells, Director of Transportation Operations for TxDOT in Atlanta.

Intersections scheduled for improvements are:

In Camp County: at SH 11 and Bus. 271 in Pittsburg, upgrade traffic signal and install pedestrian crosswalk.
In Cass County: at SH 11 and FM 161 in Hughes Springs, upgrade traffic signal, install advance warning signs, install pedestrian crosswalk and add safety lighting at intersection.
In Titus County: SH 49 at Florey Street in Mount Pleasant, upgrade traffic signal, install advance warning signs, and add safety lighting at intersection.
In Upshur County: at US 80 and SH 155 in Big Sandy, upgrade traffic signal, install advance warning signs and install pedestrian crosswalk.

Striping Technology of Tyler, TX was awarded the contract for these traffic control projects with a bid of $583,202.

Work on the projects should begin in September of this year and take about six months to complete, Wells said.
