Wood County Sheriff Jim Brown

AWood County Sheriff’s unit was involved in a single car pursuit that ended with both vehicles wrecking on Zubin Road just across the county line in Upshur County.

Noel Arreon Weatherby, w/m, age 38, of Big Sandy, Texas, failed to stop and attempted to evade the Wood County Deputy when the deputy attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle being driven by Weatherby on CR 3540 near Hwy. 2869 in Wood County.

Weatherby has multiple outstanding felony warrants out of Smith County Sheriff’s Office for “Forgery” and “Credit Card Abuse”. There is also a felony warrant out of Tyler P.D. for “Evading/Resisting in Vehicle”. Weatherby was also being sought in connection with several burglaries in Wood County.

After wrecking the vehicle Weatherby attempted to flee the area on foot. He was later apprehended during a search of a nearby wooded area.  Wood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the search by several agencies including DPS, Upshur County, Smith County, Quitman Police Department and a State Game Warden.

Weatherby was transported to Wood Jail where he was booked on the felony out-of-county warrants.  Weatherby faces an additional felony “Evading Arrest with a Vehicle” charge in Wood County.

There were only superficial injuries as a result of the vehicle crashes.  As precautionary measures the Wood County Deputy was transported by EMS to the Quitman hospital and a pregnant female passenger from the suspect vehicle was taken by care-flight to a hospital in Tyler.
