PJC’s Clark Leaving For New Mexico Plus Colby Just Misses No-No

After 20 years and 577 wins with the PJC Dragons, head baseball coach and Athletic Director, Daron Clark has accepted an offer to become the AD of New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico. During his tenure with the Dragons, Clark helped groom six All-Americans, 55 All-Conference players, 11 professional players, including a pair of Major Leaguers. Clark is the longest tenured baseball coach in the programs history.

Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers took down the Oakland A’s 5-1. Colby Lewis was masterful on the hill, taking a perfect game into the 8th inning and a no hitter into the 9th. With the win Texas improves to 42-25 and hold a 6.5 game lead for 1st place in the AL West. The Rangers will face off with a familiar foe this weekend when they visit the St. Louis Cardinals. Last night in the NBA the Cleveland Cavaliers force game 7 after beating Golden State 115-101. LeBron James was dominant with 41 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Now with the series all tied up at three games apiece, Cleveland and Golden State head back to Oracle Arena to decide who takes home the Larry O’ Brien. Tip off on Sunday is set for 7pm.

Several weather delays ultimately caused the first day of the U. S. Open to be suspended at Oakmont with play expected to be picked back up today. From what was played, Andrew Landry sits at -3 to lead the pack. Bubba Watson is at -2, along with Danny Lee. None of which finished out the opening day. Last years U. S. Open winner, Jordan Spieth shot +1 through 11 holes.

And the United States Men’s National Team advances to the Copa America Semi-Finals after defeating Ecuador yesterday 2-1. East Texas native, Clint Dempsey tallied the first goal for team USA in the 22nd minute. The Semi-Finals begin on Tuesday with the finals on Sunday, June 26th.
