Prairiland Bball Tourney Info Plus Cowboys-Bears On TNF

The annual Prairiland basketball tournament gets underway today at Prairiland high school and junior high. Local teams participating will be both Chisum teams. As well as both Honey Grove teams. The Detroit girls are also in the tournament.

Another tournament action has the Paris boys in Van’s tournament. The Paris girls will be in the Royce City tournament. The North Lamar boys will be at the Edgewood tournament. The Clarksville boys are also in the Edgewood tournament. The Pantherettes are in the Dodd City tournament. Also in The Dodd City tournament are the Rivercrest girls and the Detroit boys. The Rivercrest boys will play in the Spring Hill tournament.

Don’t forget this week’s playoff schedule: Paul Pewitt takes on Daingerfield in round four of the playoffs Friday night at 7:30 pm at Mt Pleasant. The game will be broadcast on STAR Country 96.9, and online at easttexasradio.com. Also Friday, Gilmer will take on Pleasant Grove at 7:00 pm at Longview Lobo Stadium.

No. 21 Lions prepare for Regional Final at No. 4 Minnesota State. Texas A&M has already knocked off a couple of undefeated teams in the playoffs including Tarleton State and Colorado School of Mines.

The Dallas Mavericks are 9-1 in their last 10 games after a 121-114 win over Minnesota last night. Dwight Powell finished with 24 points to lead Dallas.

Left-hander Cole Hamels and the Atlanta Braves have agreed to a one-year, $18 million contract Hamels joins a Braves rotation fronted by Mike Soroka and including Max Fried and Mike Foltynewicz. Two other members of the Braves’ 2019 rotation are free agents, right-hander Julio Teheran after Atlanta declined his 2020 option, and left-hander Dallas Keuchel.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton plans to undergo surgery on the left foot injury that ultimately landed him on injured reserve. Newton aggravated the Lisfranc injury, originally suffered in the third preseason game, in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He visited with foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson last month, and the decision at that time was he would not have surgery. The news came out shortly after Ron Rivera held his final news conference at Bank of America Stadium.

Eli Manning’s career with the New York Giants isn’t going to end with him sitting on the bench for the final 14 games of the season.

The two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback is “very likely” to start Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles with rookie Daniel Jones dealing with a “moderate-high ankle sprain,” coach Pat Shurmur said Wednesday.

Buccaneers’ Coach Bruce Arians, who had cited quarterback Jameis Winston as a major reason he came out of retirement, declined to say whether Winston would be part of the organization’s plans after the 2019 season when his rookie contract expires. “I’m gonna pass on that one,” said Arians, who publicly has been a supporter of Winston through much of the season while acknowledging that his turnovers have been a problem. “I’m gonna wait until the end of December.”
