Reno’s City Council Approves Ordinance

The Reno City Council approved a proposed ordinance that enacts child safety zones. It restricts where sex offenders can live. The measure responds to Texas House Bill 1111 that went into effect Sep. 1. Child safety zones are 1000 feet around public parks, playgrounds, schools, daycares, and public places where children may gather. Police Chief Matt Birch says after the city publishes the ordinance, the violation will be a misdemeanor with a fine not to exceed $500.
