Sports Update For Friday Sept. 6

Week 2 of the high school football season gets underway tonight. On 101.9 KBUS, the Paris Wildcats will host Terrell for homecoming. On Mix 107.7 and KLAKE 97.7, the North Lamar Panthers will try to get their first win as they face the 1–0 Mt. Pleasant Tigers. Both broadcasts will start at 7:00 with the pregame.

Prairiland will also be looking for their first win as they host Tom Bean for their homecoming. Chisum will be at home as they face Lone Oak. Clarksville will try to get their first win of the season when Linden Kildare comes to town. In what could be a very entertaining game, the Rivercrest Rebels host Cooper. Both teams are 1–0 after getting blow-out wins in week one. Honey Grove will play Whitewright in Honey Grove, where both teams will be looking for their second win of the young season. And in another battle of teams looking for their first win, Detroit will be at home against Como-Pickton. You can catch all the scores of these and other games tonight on Goal Line on KOYN 93–9.

Paul Pewitt is on the road at Hooks on STAR 96.9 at 7:30 pm and the Sulphur Springs Wildcats are at Lovejoy and are hoping to rebound after a disappointing loss in the opening game of the season. That game on STAR Country 95.9. Also Friday, Pittsburg goes to Pine Tree, Mt Vernon travels to Farmersville, Hughes Springs will host Arp, Gilmer is at Van and Winnsboro will host Queen City. On Saturday night, it’s a special Game of the Week on STAR 96.9, as Daingerfield is at Tatum for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

In volleyball action Friday, North Lamar, ranked 21st In 4A, will travel to Gunter, who is ranked 15th in 3A. It’ll be the number two ranked team in 3A hosting the number one team in 4A when Prairiland plays Farmersville in Pattonville. Anna comes to town to play Chisum. Rivercrest is at Yantis while Detroit hosts Dodd City.

The No. 13 Texas A&M University-Commerce football team opens the 2019 season on Saturday evening, hosting Selección Nuevo León for International Day and Student Appreciation Day. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.

Rookie Kolby Allard won his third straight start, Nick Solak hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off John Means in the seventh inning and the Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 Thursday night. They are back at it again tonight at 6:05 pm. on 1490 AM and 96.3 FM KPLT. Pregame is at 5:30 with the first pitch at 6:05.

The 100th NFL season got underway last night, and the defense was the name of the game. The two teams could only manage 13 total points as the Packers beat the Bears 10-3. The Dallas Cowboys face the NY Giants Sunday afternoon at 3:35 pm to start their season.

Antonio Brown and Raiders’ general manager Mike Mayock got into a heated exchange Wednesday, and the team is now planning to suspend its star wide receiver. The length of the suspension was not immediately known, as the Raiders are still weighing their options. The confrontation, according to Schefter, stemmed from Brown’s Instagram post on Wednesday when he displayed a letter from Mayock that detailed about $54,000 in fines for the missing time during training camp.
