Football

Texas A&M University-Commerce football coach Clint Dolezel announced the appointments of Bobby Bounds, Dave Ewart, and John McWilliams to his coaching staff. Bounds, a Lion Athletics Hall of Fame member, has been tabbed the Director of Player Personnel. Ewart, a veteran coach in arena football, is the new offensive line coach. McWilliams, who has had stops at Alabama, Georgia, Marshall, and New Mexico, is hired as the Football Strength and Conditioning Director.

Northeast Texas Community College Baseball walked away from Centenary College on Tuesday with a 17-7 victory and nailed down 3-0 for the season.

They moved Mt Pleasant’s softball scrimmage against North Lamar to Tiger Field in Mt Pleasant, with JV starting at 4:30 and varsity at 6:00.

BASKETBALL

Sulphur Springs’ No. 10 ranked basketball team clinched the No. 1 seed going into the playoffs last Tuesday when they defeated North Lamar 66-39.

The Mount Pleasant Lady Tiger basketball team will play Nacogdoches in the bi-district round. The game is on Monday, February 13, at 6:30 pm at Tyler Legacy High School.

Chapel Hill girls play Chism Monday at 7:30 pm in Pittsburg. Mt Vernon girls will play New Boston Monday night with time and place TBA.

Winnsboro defeated Quitman 66-36 to complete a flawless 12-0 district record. Chapel Hill beat Mineola 66-45, and Mount Vernon defeated Harmony 59-21. Winnsboro takes the top seed Queen City in the bi-district round on Monday at 6:00 pm at Longview. Chapel Hill takes the Chisum Monday at 7:30 pm in PittsburTBD, and Mount Vernon sits No. 3 and faces New Boston TBD. Mineola and Quitman finish the district schedule with 5-7 records. Those teams will have a play-in game Friday at 5:00 at Winnsboro to determine the fourth seed heading into the postseason.

The Mt Pleasant girl’s golf tournament scheduled for Wednesday (Feb 8) is now Thursday (Feb 9). They changed the course to Eagle’s Bluff in Bullard.
