Upshur County sentenced a Gilmer man to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child. Now, 37-year-old Matthew Joseph Savary must serve at least 30 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole. His guilty plea also means he has given up his right to appeal and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. As part of Savary’s plea bargain, prosecutors dropped additional sexual assault charges against him.
