Volleyball Playoff Results Plus Cubs Force Game Seven

Paris – Lamar County volleyball teams began the playoffs last night. The North Lamar Pantherette’s advance past Wills Point three sets to none. The Pantherette’s will take on Rusk in the area round this weekend. Rivercrest defeats North Hopkins in four sets and will meet Carlisle this weekend. The Chisum Lady Mustangs and Paris Lady Cats saw their season come to an end yesterday evening. Chisum falls to Hooks, while Paris is eliminated by Mabank. The Roxton Lady Lions and Detroit Lady Eagles had a bye in the opening round.

Mount Pleasant – Area teams began post season play in high school volleyball last night. The Chapel Hill Lady Devils sweep the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas. Chapel Hill volleyball will face off with Elysian Fields tomorrow night in Gilmer at 7:30. 13-3A Champion Mt. Vernon defeated Queen City to advance to the area round. They’ll take on White Oak. The Rivercrest Lady Rebels advance to round two after defeating North Hopkins in four sets. They’ll face Carlisle next. High school football wraps up the regular season Friday night.

Sulphur Springs – Area teams began the post season in high school volleyball last night. 13-3A Champion Mt. Vernon defeated Queen City to advance to the area round. They’ll take on White Oak. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats saw their season come to an end, falling in four sets to Forney at Edgewood High School.

The Texas A&M Commerce Lions continue to move up the Division II ranks to number four in the country after shutting out West Texas A&M 36-0. The Lions travel to UT-Permian Basin Saturday with kickoff at 7pm.

The Chicago Cubs come force game seven after beating the Tribe last night 9-3 in game six. It was youngster, Addison Russell with a grand slam and six RBIs to lead the way for the Cubs. Jake Arrieta picked up the win on the mound, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Can the Cubs come back from down 3-1 in the series? Or will Cleveland celebrate on their home field? Game seven is tonight at 7pm.

The Dallas Stars’ struggles continue after a 3-2 overtime loss to Columbus. Jason Spezza and Tyler Seguin netted the pair of Stars goals. Though Dallas collects a point, their record slips to 3-4-2 on the season and sit in 6th place in the Central Division standings. The Stars are back on the ice tomorrow when they host St. Louis at 7:30.

And the first polls are out for the College Football playoffs. The top four are the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Crimson Tigers, the Michigan Wolverines and the Texas A&M Aggies. Unbeaten Washington is 5th. Ohio State is 6th and the Louisville Cardinals are 7th.
