The North East Texas Choral Society members are excited to present its 26th spring concert, “I Saw the Light.” They present the concert on Saturday, May 4, at 7:00 pm and Sunday, May 5, at 2:00 pm in the SSHS Auditorium.
Tickets are on sale on our website at http://www.singerscount.org/shop, from any singer, and at local banks. This is a concert of American traditional music from sacred, spiritual, and gospel sources that you don’t want to miss. Bring your friends, family, Sunday School class, or study group and share the experience.
Argo VFD’s Fifth Annual Fundraiser is on Saturday, May 11, at the fire station starting at 5:00 pm. They are serving fried catfish and all the fixings with to-go plates available. A live auction for cakes, pies, and other donated items starts at 6:30 pm, and there is a bounce house for the kids. The cost is any donation, and everyone is welcome.
Plan to attend the monthly genealogy meeting on Monday, May 13, at 7:00 pm at the Red River County Chamber of Commerce meeting room on the square in Clarksville. Jim Thornhill, of Royce City, noted speaker and lecturer, will be present to speak on Back to Basics in Genealogy Research.
Thornhill, who is a native Texan and a lifelong resident of the Dallas area, has been researching his family’s history for 20 years, five of those as a professional genealogist. Jim is chief researcher for Heroes of the Past, a company that seeks to delight clients, provide context to our ancestor’s lives, and show how we all have Heroes in our Pasts. Jim is a graduate of the ProGen professional genealogy course, the Genealogy Proof course, and the Texas Institute for Genealogical Research and was awarded the Birdie Monk Holsclaw Scholarship to the Institute for Genealogical and Historical Research in Athens, Georgia, and won first place in the Professional writing category for the Texas State Genealogical Society. Jim has written articles for the Dallas Genealogical Society’s e-news and Stirpes, the Journal of the Texas State Genealogical Society. The Mount Pleasant Tigers Boys Basketball Camp will be held again this summer on May 28-29, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at Willie Williams Gym. It is open to completed 1st-6th grade students.
