Area volleyball action tonight as Quinlan Ford visits Chisum. Paris High welcomes Sherman while Cumby travels to Pattonville to take on the Prairiland Lady Pats. The North Lamar Pantherettes varsity team has the night off.

In High School football this week, the Mt Pleasant Tigers looks to stay unbeaten at home as they host North Lamar. That game will be broadcast on K-Lake 977. Pine Tree will visit Pittsburg and will be the Game of the Week on Star 969. It’s Homecoming at Sulphur Springs as they host Terrell on Star 959. Gilmer will host Van, Hughes Springs will travel to Arp, Mt Vernon will host Farmersville for Homecoming, Paul Pewitt will be at home against Hooks, and Saturday night, Daingerfield will host Tatum at 7:00 pm and that game will be broadcast on Star 969.

Following an exciting 37-36 double-overtime victory in the season opener, the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team remains No. 1 in the 2018 American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll, as released Monday.

Lions’ senior Kristov Martinez has been named the Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Martinez made a 34-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining to tie the game at 23 and send the contest to overtime. He was 4-for-4 on PAT attempts, including the game-winning point after the touchdown in the second overtime.

In Arlington Monday night the Rangers offense couldn’t produce much as they fell to the Angels 3-1. The lone Ranger run came in the 7th with Joey Gallo at the plate. Texas will continue their series with the Angels tonight on 1490AM and 96.3FM KPLT. Pregame at 6:30. First pitch at 7:05.

Dallas Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett said new kicker Brett Maher has “all the attributes you’d want,” but acknowledged the decision to cut Dan Bailey, the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history, was difficult. “We recognize (Maher) has not made a kick in the National Football League. We understand that” Garrett said. “We understand what Dan Bailey has done in the National Football League so that makes the decision that much more difficult. That Cowboys will be at Carolina at 3:25 Sunday afternoon.

The New York Jets have a new starting quarterback and a new face of the franchise. Rookie Sam Darnold was officially named the starter Monday, coach Todd Bowles announced. He will become the youngest opening-day quarterback in NFL history. He will be 21 years, 97 days old when the Jets travel to play the Detroit Lions on Monday night.

The First regular season game of the year is Thursday night as the Atlanta Falcons head to Philadelphia to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles.

Urban Meyer hit the ground running Monday morning in his first day back as Ohio State’s head coach, according to his assistants. Acting head coach Ryan Day said there were a few hugs and a very short staff meeting Monday morning before the coaches went their separate ways while starting to prepare for this weekend’s football game against Rutgers.
