Baseball Softball Playoffs Continue Plus Rangers Fall in Oakland

Paris – The North Lamar Panthers and Pantherette’s continue their contention for a state title in baseball and softball. The Pantherette’s will meet Krum in the regional semi-final round starting with game 1 on Thursdays in Prosper at 7pm. Game two is Friday in Bonham at 7 and game three, if necessary, is Saturday 4pm back in Prosper. All games will be carried on MIX 107.7. North Lamar baseball will face off with Athens in the regional quarterfinals on KOYN 93.9. Game one is Thursday at 6:30 at Lindale. Game two is Friday in Sulphur Springs at 6:30. And game three is back in Lindale on Saturday at 2pm, if needed.

Mount Pleasant – Over the weekend in Austin the Daingerfield Lady Tiger 4×100 meter relay team took home gold medals with a winning time of 47.29 seconds. The team was made up of Sophomore Layla Johnston, Junior Denver Mims, and Seniors Alexis Porter and Chablis Barber. The team is coached by Dana Carter

Meanwhile, the Pittsburg Pirates advance to the regional quarterfinals of the High School Baseball Playoffs. They’ll take on district Rival and 15-4A Champion, Pleasant Grove. Game one of the best of three series is Thursday at Pleasant Grove at 7pm. Game two is Friday at Pittsburg at 5pm. Game three would follow, if necessary. All games can be heard live on Star 96.9.

Sulphur Springs – Several area athletes competed in the State Track and Field Meet in Austin over the weekend. Freshman distance runner, Sienna Collins earned a silver medal in the 3,200 meter run and finished 4th in the 800. Albert Serrano of Miller Grove placed sixth in both the 3,200 and the 1,600 meter. The Miller Grove mile relay team, as well as Ricky Davis of Sulphur Bluff also competed.

The Sulphur Springs athletic program received a donation from Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Richard Graves. The local M. D. has provided the Wildcat indoor facility with a new scoreboard. The clock and timer will be used in its first activity today when Sulphur Springs hosts Gilmer in 7 on 7 competition.

Last night the Texas Rangers fall to the Oakland A’s 3-1. Derek Holland was handed the loss despite giving up only two runs on three hits in six innings pitched. Atlanta, Texas native Drew Stubbs had the lone RBI for the Rangers. Now with a 22-17 record, Texas is tied at the top of the AL West standings with Seattle. The A’s and Rangers play again today [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm] First pitch from Oakland is set for 9:05pm Central time.

In the NBA playoffs the OKC Thunder steal game one of the western conference finals 108-102 against the Golden State Warriors. Four out of the Thunder starting five notched double-doubles, including Russell Westbrook with a 27 point, 12 rebound performance. He also notched seven steals and six assists. Game one of the Eastern Conference finals between the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers begins tonight as well. Tip off is set for 7:30.

And in the NHL post season the Pittsburgh Penguins even the West finals after last night’s 3-2 overtime win over Tampa Bay. The series is now tied at 1 game apiece.
