One Community, Two Families Fighting Childhood Cancer
In a continuing effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, two families from Lamar County, the Hallfords and the Faulkners, are hosting a lemonade and lunch stand on Saturday, June 2 from 10:30 am to 3 pm at Tractor Supply Co. in Paris, TX during Lemonade Days. The second annual lemonade and lunch stand will honor childhood cancer heroes Madilyn Hallford and Sierra Faulkner and benefit childhood cancer research through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF).
Although Madilyn, 3, and Sierra, 4, live about 10 miles away from each other, they did not meet until they were diagnosed in 2016 and treated at Children’s Hospital Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Dallas. Now, with the help of their families, they are choosing to make lemonade out of lemons.
“Last year, we were simply amazed at the outpouring of support from our community during Sierra and Madi’s first lemonade stand, with total donations coming in at almost 125% of our goal,” said Tayrn Hallford, Madi’s mom.
Last year, Madilyn and Sierra, with the help of their families and community, raised over $2,400. This year, the event has moved to a new location and will offer lemonade, bottles of water, hot dogs, chips and treats for sale during lunch time. Founded by Alex Scott (1996-2004) in 2004, Lemonade Days is a national event that grew out of Alex’s front yard lemonade stand. Held every June, an estimated 10,000 volunteers will host over 2,000 lemonade stands around the nation making a difference for children with cancer. Lemonade Days 2018 is June 2-10!
