High School Basketball And Cowboys Notes In Today’s Sports Update

The TRMC Tiger Town Tournament is kicking off this morning at 10:30 and running through Saturday. All games will be played in Willie Williams Gym on the campus of Mount Pleasant High School. Among the teams participating along with Mt Pleasant are Pleasant Grove, Pittsburg, Daingerfield, Marshall, and Jefferson. Admission is $10 per day or $25 for the entire weekend.

As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for Sunday’s game with the Indianapolis Colts, they may be getting some more help on the defense. Sean Lee practiced Wednesday in a limited role and saw some reps with the first team.

Wide receiver Tavon Austin also saw some limited practice on Wednesday. While right guard Zack Martin did not practice due to spraining his knee in the win over Philadelphia on Sunday.

If Dallas beats the Colts on Sunday they will lock up the NFC East title and secure their spot in the postseason. Kickoff is at 12 o’clock on Sunday.

Reports out of the Baseball winter meetings is that the Rangers have agreed to a three-year, 30 million dollar contract with starting pitcher Lance Lynn. Lynn has pitched six full seasons in the majors and pitched at least 150 innings in each season including a pair of 200-inning seasons. It will not be officially announced until after the winter meetings are completed.

The Dallas Mavericks snapped a ten-game losing streak to the Atlanta Hawks last night as they won 114-107. Rookies Luka Doncic for the Mavs and Trae Young for the Hawks both finished with 24 points. The two players were traded for each other on draft night.

The Mavs play in Phoenix tonight and reports are surfacing that Dirk Nowitzki will make his season debut.

And the Stars blew a 3-1 lead in Anaheim as they lost 6-3. Dallas will be San Jose tonight.

The 2020 NFL draft will take place in Las Vegas, commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday. The draft will take place April 23-25, mere months before the Raiders start their first season in Las Vegas. Draft events will take place in and around the Vegas Strip, the league said. Last year’s draft was at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. The 2019 draft will take place in Nashville, and for the first time, all three days will be broadcast on ABC.

The Baltimore Ravens are officially Lamar Jackson’s team. Jackson was named the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Joe Flacco will serve as the backup, coach John Harbaugh announced Wednesday. For four weeks, Jackson started because Flacco was dealing with a hip injury. Now, with Flacco fully recovered, the Ravens are sticking with Jackson because the team feels the rookie first-round pick gives Baltimore the best chance of winning and reaching the playoffs.

Ezekiel Elliott is on the injury report with a shoulder injury, which occurred in the second half of the Philadelphia win, but it won’t affect his availability for this week’s game at Indianapolis. Sean Lee practiced yesterday for the first time since he was injured on November 5. Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith took the first turns during individual drills. If Lee plays this week, it will likely be on a pitch count after missing the last five games.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry said he was joking when he questioned on a podcast whether astronauts ever landed on the moon, and he will happily accept NASA’s invitation to tour the lunar lab at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. “In terms of the reaction that I’ve gotten, I am definitely going to take [NASA] up on their offer. I am going to educate myself firsthand on everything that NASA has done and shine a light on their tremendous work over the years.”
