High School Football Plus Rangers Drop Finale to White Sox

Area high school football teams took to the field for this weekend for their first scrimmages of the 2017 season. The scrimmages were made up with two portions of practice. A controlled portion and live action with an active clock.  There will be one more week of football scrimmages this coming Friday and Saturday before the season begins August 31 and September 1.
The Dallas Cowboys added another pre-season win, 24-19 over the Indianapolis Colts. In their first action quarterback, Dak Prescott, hooked up with the receiver, Dez Bryant, on the opening drive for a quick 32-yard strike.  Prescott ended the night going 7/8 for 106 yards, a score, and a perfect quarterback rating. The Dallas run game, consisting of Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris, and Rod Smith combined for 160 yards on the ground.

The Texas Rangers bats fall quiet as they lose the rubber match to the Chicago White Sox, 3-2. The lone offensive production came off the bat of Roogie Odor in the 9th. In Saturday’s 17-7, Adrian Beltre became the all-time RBI leader for a primary 3rd baseman with 1,624 passing former Atlanta Brave Chipper Jones. The Rangers fall back to 2.5 games out of a Wildcard spot in the American League making for a vital series with the Angels beginning tonight. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am] is set for 9:07.
And a group of Major League Baseball umpires took to the field this weekend wearing white tape on their wrist to protest against what the World Umpire Association called, “escalating verbal attacks on MLB umpires.”  Following a meeting with league commissioner, Rob Manfred, the umpires agreed to stop the protest.
