HS Playoff Results Plus Rangers Sweep Astros

Paris – The North Lamar Pantherette softball team swept Krum in a pair of games, including a 4-3 victory in 16 innings in game two. North Lamar softball will take on district 15-4A rival, Pleasant Grove this weekend in the Region 2 finals. Game one will be Thursday at 7pm on MIX 107.7. Game two is Friday at 6, game three will follow if necessary. Meanwhile, North Lamar baseball wins in three games over Athens to reach the Regional semi-finals. They’ll meet 2nd ranked Argyle on KOYN 93.9. Game one is Friday at 6:30 in Prosper. Game two is Saturday at 3pm and game three will follow if necessary.

Mount Pleasant – District 16-3A softball superlatives have been released with Hughes Springs Lady Mustang Peyton Blythe unanimously selected as the district MVP. Her fellow teammate Bailey Tenbrook was named Offensive player of the year while Kensley Echols is named defensive player of the year and Kennedi Northam was selected as catcher of the year. Coach Thompson of the Lady Mustangs and her crew were named coaching staff of the year. For the Chapel Hill Lady Red Devils, sophomore ace Jill Whitney was voted pitcher of the year and Mt. Vernon’s Heather Brown is the district’s Newcomer of the year.

Sulphur Springs – The 16-3A All-District team has been released for the Mt. Vernon Lady Tiger softball team. Freshman Heather Brown received a top district superlative by being selected as Newcomer of the Year. 1st team All-District selections for Mt. Vernon were infielders Madison Whitfield, and Savannah Young. And Designated Player Kara Hollinsworth. Six purple Lady Tigers were selected to the 2nd team or named an honorable mention.

The Sulphur Springs football team continues Spring practice this week after a weekend of action. The varsity, split into two teams, along with the Wildcat 7th graders, traveled this past Saturday to play 7 on 7 in Gilmer.

The Texas Rangers complete a three game sweep of Houston after yesterday’s 9-2 win. Rookie Nomar Mazara had a two-run homer. Cole Hamels picked up the win on the mound and is now 5-0 on the season. The Rangers will host another AL West rival when the Angels come to town. First pitch tonight on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm is set for 7:05pm Central time.

Last night in the NBA finals the OKC Thunder dominate the defending champion Golden State Warriors 133-105. The Thunder now own a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference finals with game four tomorrow at 8pm. Tonight the Cleveland Cavaliers play game four of the East finals against Toronto with the Cavs leading 2-1.

And Sergio Garcia comes away as the winner at the Byron Nelson. Garcia won a one hole playoff after shooting 15-under to take home $1.3 Million dollars.
