Saturday’s Class 6A State Championship baseball game marked the end of the 2015-2016 athletic school year. Five state title winners were crowned, starting with Class 2A where Flatonia defeated Beckville 7-1. The West Trojans beat Van Alstyne 8-1 to capture the 3A title. In Class 4A, Abilene Wylie beat Salado 3-2. The 5A title goes to Grapevine after beating Alamo Heights 9-2. And in class 6A, Dallas Jesuit wins over San Antonio Johnson 6-2. The 2016 football season will begin in just over two months on August 26th.
Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers win the rubber match over the Seattle Mariners 6-4. The Mariners were on the comeback trail in the 9th, but Nomar Mazara ended the ballgame with the play of the year from the outfield, throwing out Robinson Cano trying to extend a single into a double to end the game. Cole Hamels recorded his 2,000th career strikeout in a winning effort. The Rangers are now 39-24 on the season and sit in 1st place in the AL West. They’ll take on Oakland today [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch is set for 9:05pm Central time.
The Golden State Warriors try to clinch the NBA title tonight when they host Cleveland. They’ll have to do so without forward Draymond Green, who was suspended from this evening’s game 5 after picking up his 4th flagrant foul of the post season. Tip off tonight is at 8pm.
And the Pittsburgh Penguins win the Stanley Cup four games to two after last night’s 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.
