Lawsuit Filed Over Abbott Immigration Bills

The American Civil Liberties Union, its Texas branch, and the Texas Civil Rights Project have filed a federal lawsuit in Austin challenging a new state law that allows state and local law enforcement officers to arrest illegal immigrants and permits judges to deport them. The lawsuit alleges that the law takes effect in March and is unconstitutional because the federal government has sole authority over immigration.
