RICHARDSON, Texas – LeTourneau University men’s basketball sophomore guard Nate West has been named the American Southwest Conference East Division Co-Player of the week for his performance during the week of December 11th through the 17th. The award marks the second time that West has been named ASC East Division Player of the Week after earning his first career POW award last year on December 20.
The YellowJackets played just once last week, but it would be a memorable outing for West who recorded only the 12th triple-double in American Southwest Conference history during a 98-63 win at Howard Payne University. Against the YellowJackets, West managed to register 23 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and two steals while playing all 40 minutes for LETU. The Sophomore shares the award with senior forward Melvin Anthony from Texas-Tyler. Melvin led the Patriots with 23.5 points per game, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game while scoring a career-high 30 points in a win over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
West is now just one of eight players in NCAA Division III this season to record a triple-double and ranks 57th in total assists among all players in Division III.
A native of Houston, Texas, West is the son of Anna and Nathaniel West and is a business major at LeTourneau University.
LeTourneau will be back in action over the holiday break on Friday, December 29th in Kerrville, TX when they take on Texas Lutheran University at 12:00 p.m.
