RICHARDSON, Texas – The conference and their institutions honor Twenty-Six graduating student-athletes from the 13 American Southwest Conference member institutions as 2017-18 ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor recipients.

The ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor goes to one male and one female member of the graduating class who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics, and leadership over their collegiate career. The award is presented annually by the Faculty Athletics Representative at each conference member institution.

Recipients of the 2017-18 ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor represent 13 different conference sports and include individuals who graduated with academic honors, hold admission to graduate-level programs, are members of academic honor societies and campus organizations; competed on national, conference or division title teams; earned ASC All-Academic, Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and All-Conference honors; and who served as volunteers, tutors and mentors within the campus and the community.

Gonzalo Sosa | Business Management | Baseball | Houston, Texas
Gonzalo Sosa has carried a 4.00 GPA while at LeTourneau while serving as a two-year starter on the baseball team. Sosa is the first member of his family to attend college and is the true epitome of a student-athlete. He is also an active member of the student population on campus, participating in multiple campus community service projects and serving as a leader to those around him. Athletically, Sosa was a 2017 All-ASC Honorable Mention selection and a First Team in 2018. His versatility as an athlete has seen him play first base, designated hitter, and pitcher throughout the year.

Korissa White | Early Childhood-6th Grade Education | Volleyball | Topeka, Kan.
Korissa White graduated from LeTourneau in December 2017 with her bachelor’s degree while carrying a 4.00 GPA throughout college. In addition to playing volleyball for the YellowJackets, White spent her final semester student-teaching in the Longview community which led to an offer of full-time employment with the school district with which she student-taught. White has been on the President’s List every semester that she has attended LeTourneau and awarded with the Dean’s Education Award in 2017. A three-year member of the ASC Academic-All Conference team, she was also named the Key Education Student Award in 2017. White served as team captain of the YellowJackets for both the 2016 and 2017 seasons and was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also volunteered with LETU as part of Keep Longview Beautiful and Special Friends Ministry and created Ragamuffin College Ministry on campus. Athletically, White finished her career at LeTourneau fifth all-time in assists and was LETU’s representative for the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team for the fall of 2017.
