Local Players Participate In National Signing Day Plus Stars And Mavs Back In Action

 

Area high school athletes inked their letter of intent yesterday to continue their athletic careers at the next level.
Paris – From Paris high, Donovan Williams signs to play Division I football at Sam Houston State University where he’ll play running back. Williams was one of the most decorated backs in Paris history with over 4,500 total yards and 50 touchdowns in his career. Offensive lineman Ashton Savage is headed to Navarro College. Safety Jordan Furtch will be going to Arkansas Tech, while Lilly Lewis continues her track career at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Mount Pleasant – The Mt Pleasant Tiger soccer team looks to stay unbeaten in district play tomorrow evening when they host the Marshall Mavericks at Sam Parker Field. The Tigers are currently 2-0 out of 16-5A. Match time begins at 7:00 pm. The Chapel Hill Red Devils get ready to host the Tyler Chapel Hill Bulldogs tomorrow night as the Red Devils prepare to begin district play next weekend, while the Pittsburg Pirates will be hosting Mineola at Pirate Stadium.
Sulphur Springs – Sulphur Springs Quarterback Ryan Humphries signs to play Division I football at Sam Houston State University. Defensive lineman D’idrec Dugan will be playing for Arkansas Tech while defensive back Terrell Turman is headed to Southern Arkansas. A pair of Lady Cat soccer players also signed. Mileena Zirretta is going to Brookhaven while teammate Makenna Kager joins Ouachita Baptist. Sulphur Springs softball player Macee Hollins signs with Texas Southern.
It was a memorable national signing day yesterday, especially for the University of Texas. The Longhorns landed the nations third-ranked recruiting class of 2018 that includes what may go down as the best defensive back class in the program’s history. Georgia and Ohio State were considered one and two respectively, followed by Texas. Penn State and Clemson round out the top five. Alabama, Miami, USC, Notre Dame and Oklahoma finish up the top 10 recruiting classes of 2018.
The Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars will be back in action tonight as the Stars head to the Windy City to face the Chicago Blackhawks. Puck drop this evening is at 7:30. The Mavs, meanwhile, will be on the road to face Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors. Tip-off in the Bay Area is at 9:30.
And the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea will begin today, however, the opening ceremony for the winter games will take place tomorrow evening at 8:00 pm. The United States will take part in the traditional parade where four-time Olympian and World Champion luger, Erin Hamilton, will serve as the nations representative flag bearer. Also noted, North Korean and host South Korean athletes are expected to walk together in the opening ceremony.
