More High School Volleyball Plus Rangers Stay Hot

 

Area high school volleyball teams were on the court last night.
Paris – In a Red River Valley showdown, the Prairiland Lady Patriots improve to 8-2 on the season after sweeping Paris High in straight sets. The Lady Cats drop to 6-3. The North Lamar Pantherette’s played a pair of contests at Panther Gym yesterday, falling to Denison before sweeping Avery for their victory of the season. The Chisum Lady Mustangs dropped straight sets to Mt. Pleasant Monday night.
Mount Pleasant – The Chapel Hill Lady Devils fall in four sets to the New Boston Lady Lions, 25-21, 15-25, 20-25, and 23-25. Chapel Hill volleyball will return to the court tomorrow to begin the West Rusk tournament. The Mt Pleasant Lady Tigers won in straight sets over Class 3A Chisum on Monday night 25-7, 25-20, 25-19 to improve to 6-3. They’ll be back in action this weekend at the Denison tournament.
Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats pick up a win over McKinney North last night in four sets, 23-25, 28-26, 25-22 and 25-19.  Madison Vickery leads with nine blocks. Lexi Whisenhunt set up for 25 assists and Kaylee Jefferson picked up 22 digs on the evening. The Lady Cats improve to 5-3 on the season and begin the Wills Point Tournament on Friday.
The Texas Rangers stay hot beating the Detroit Tigers last night 10-4, good buddy. It was slugger Joey Gallo with his 34th homer of the season followed by Mike Napoli, going back to back. Texas has now won eight of their last 12, including five of six. The Rangers now only 2.5 games back of a wildcard spot in the American League. They’ll go for the sweep tonight against Detroit. They’ll do so with Cole Hamels on the mound. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am] is set for 7:05.
The NFL Players Association has officially appealed the suspension of Dallas Cowboys Running Back, Ezekiel Elliott. Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Elliott for six games for violating the league’s conduct policy after being accused of domestic violence in 2016. The hearing for Elliott will be August 29.
The Cowboys also shuffle the bottom of depth chart releasing linebacker and Pleasant Grove Hawks alum, Lucas Wacha along with tight end Connor Hamlett. In signed in their place a pair of cornerbacks, Josh Green and DeJuan Butler. Cowboys owner and GM, Jerry Jones, also announced linebacker Jaylon Smith will make his NFL Debut on Saturday against the Colts.
