MPHS senior signs to play collegiate volleyball

Mount Pleasant High School senior Genesis Roberson signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Southwestern Christian College. She will be a setter for the Lady Rams while majoring in nursing. Located in Terrell, TX, SwCC participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 5 as a Division I program. They are with fellow junior colleges Cisco, Hill, Ranger, Temple, North Central Texas, Vernon, Mountain View, and Dallas College—Richland.

Roberson has been a four-year member of the Lady Tiger volleyball team, a setter, and a right-side hitter. In 2021 she was selected 2nd Team All-District and chosen for the Academic All-District team in 2020 and 2021. She is the daughter of Dexter Roberson and Adrianne Waters.

MPHS UIL competes at Pine Tree Invitational

The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team opened its spring season on Friday and Saturday, January 7 and 8, at the Pine Tree High School UIL Invitational in Longview.

The debate opened the competition on Friday night with the following results:

Lincoln Douglas:  

2nd place—Angelina Hernandez

Cross-Examination:  

3rd place–Taylor Hubbs and Merlin Cardona

4th place—Connelly Cowan and Anthony Orellana

Top Speaker—Taylor Hubbs

Saturday continued with academic and speech events with the following results:

The MPHS UIL Academic teams will compete again at the Whitehouse Invitational on January 28 and 29 as they prepare for the district meet. Gina Crouch (UIL Coordinator, Spelling and Current Events), Osias Hernandez (Math and Calculator), Gabrielle Robbins (Ready Writing), Tammy Thomas (Computer Science), David Clark (Computer Apps and Accounting), Leanne Blalock (Social Studies), Enrique Martinez (Speech and Debate), John Whitten (Journalism), Larry Russell (Science), Randy Ballard (Number Sense), and Angela Priefert (Literary Criticism), all coach the teams.
