Attention Prairiland Patriot fans. How would you like to win a pair of football tickets to see the Patriots this year? All you have to do is visit RRV Sports on Facebook for the details.

Across town, the North Lamar Pantherettes swept Denison in three sets. Kenley Coston had 11 kills and three aces in the win. The Chisum Lady Mustangs took care of Dekalb in four while Rivercrest outlasted North Hopkins in five sets.

Football scrimmages get started this week. North Lamar will be in Atlanta. Paris High will travel to Henderson. Chisum travels to Detroit. Prairiland will host Maud.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper has missed the last week of training camp while dealing with a plantar fascia irritation. Though plantar fascia injuries – and particularly plantar fasciitis – are usually long term in nature, Cooper is expected to heal shortly from a small muscle strain. Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the wideout will be evaluated on a daily basis, but he still isn’t ready to practice yet. Cowboys will play the Rams this Saturday in their second preseason game.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale reached the 2000 strikeout plateau last night, becoming the fastest player to do so, besting the mark by former Red Sox player Pedro Martinez.

Five Blue Jays pitchers combined on a five-hitter, Teoscar Hernandez and Billy McKinney hit back-to-back home runs, and Toronto beat the slumping Texas Rangers 3-0 on Tuesday night. Those two teams will finish their series today on 1490am and 96.3fm KPLT. Pregame at 11am. First pitch at 11:37.

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate has lost his appeal of his four-game suspension, leaving his new team without a key acquisition for the first quarter of the season. Tate tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance that he said came from prescribed fertility medication. His appeal was heard Tuesday by an arbiter in New York.

The New England Patriots waived Danny Etling on Tuesday, which ends an experiment in which the quarterback was attempting to switch to wide receiver. The Patriots needed to create a roster spot to make room for tight end Eric Saubert, who was acquired in a trade from the Atlanta Falcons for a conditional seventh-round draft choice.

The Philadelphia Phillies have hired former manager Charlie Manuel as the team’s new hitting coach after relieving John Mallee of his duties, the team announced Tuesday. Manuel, 75, last managed the Phillies in 2013. He is the franchise’s winningest manager with a 780-636 mark, leading the team to a 2008 World Series championship and five straight division titles.

Denzel Mims of Daingerfield and Keenen Johnson of Alto — are on the watch list for the Seventh Annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Mims is now is a senior wide receiver at Baylor, while Johnson is a senior wide receiver at Tulsa.
