Paris – Week 1 of the Texas high school football season kicks off tonight in the Red River Valley. Our KOYN Game of the Week will feature the Chisum Mustangs and Rivercrest Rebels. The game has been moved to Prairiland’s Patriot Stadium due to field conditions. The Paris Wildcats travel to take on the Terrell Tigers on 101.9 KBUS. The North Lamar Panthers are in Southeast Oklahoma to face Idabel on MIX 107.7. Prairiland is at DeKalb. Cooper will visit Farmersville. Honey Grove travels to Trenton and Detroit will be at home against Blue Ridge. All games kickoff at 7:30 tomorrow night.
Mount Pleasant – Week 1 of the Texas high school football season kicked off last night. On the Star Country Game of the Week the Hughes Springs Mustangs begin the season 1-0 after shutting out Daingerfield 24-0. And the Gilmer Buckeyes win a shootout 61-55 over Liberty Eylau. Tonight the Mt. Pleasant Tigers visit North Forney on K Lake 97.7. While the Pittsburg Pirates travel to Crandall. That game will also be carried on Star Country. Rivercrest and Chisum have moved their game to Prairiland high school. Paul Pewitt is at Sabine and Mt. Vernon travels to Caddo Mills. All games kick off at 7:30.
Sulphur Springs – Tonight the Sulphur Springs Wildcats host Sherman at Prim Stadium to kick off week 1 of the Texas high school football season. You can hear the game on Star Country 95.9. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm. The Greenville Lions travel to North Garland. The Cooper Bulldogs hit the road to Farmersville. Commerce will travel to Lone Oak. Como Pickton is at Grand Saline. Winnsboro will visit West Rusk. Emory Rains will host Quinlan Ford and Mt. Vernon will be on the road at Caddo Mills. All games kick off at 7:30.
Last night the Dallas Cowboys played pre-season game number three, falling to the Seattle Seahawks 27-17. Quarterback Tony Romo left with a back injury on the 3rd play of the game and was held out as a precaution. Romo is expected to start week 1 against the Giants. Rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott were productive with their reps. Prescott went 17 of 23 for 116 yards and a touchdown to Jason Witten. Zeke averaged nearly seven yards per rush, with 48 yards on seven carries.
The Texas Rangers blank the Cleveland Indians last night 9-0 behind a strong outing by Cole Hamels. To collect his 14th win of the season, Hamels went eight innings, of shutout baseball on two hits with eight strikeouts. Newly acquired outfielder, Carlos Gomez jumpstarted the offense in his first at bat in a Ranger uniform. Texas is now 75-53 on the season and have a 7.5 game lead over Seattle.
