For the sixth consecutive year the Dallas Cowboys will begin the season with a player suspended. This time it’s Defensive End Robert Quinn, who was suspended two games for violating the leagues substance abuse program. Quinn’s attorney says the substance is a medication to help with seizures and gout. This medication can also be used to help mask the use of steroids, which is why it’s on the banned list. Quinn had surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture in his hand. Dallas will play their first preseason game tomorrow night at San Francisco.
Five pitchers combined to toss a two-hit gem Thursday, as the Riders topped Amarillo 3–1. The five arms – Richelson Pena, Luke Farrell, CD Pelham, Blake Bass and Jake Lemoine – yielded just two hits and a walk to knock off the first-place Sod Poodles. Pelham was one of the highlights for the staff, striking out the side in order during the fifth inning. Rehabber Luke Farrell also turned in a scoreless outing in his second appearance with the Riders. Frisco broke through in a scoreless tie with a three-run sixth, started by a sacrifice fly from Leody Taveras and two run-scoring wild pitches.
