Soccer Playoffs Continue Plus Hamels Dominates in Today’s Sports

Paris – Girls high school soccer playoffs continue tonight for the Paris Lady Cats with the Regional Quarterfinal Round.  It’ll be a home match for the Paris girls at Wildcat Stadium against Kaufman.  Match time is set for 7pm. District play in high school baseball and softball continues.
This evening on 101.9 KBUS the Paris Wildcats host the 2nd ranked Pleasant Grove Hawks at Hub Hollis Field. Paris is 2-1 in district 15-4A. Pleasant Grove is 3-0.  Pre-game begins at 7:15. First pitch is at 7:30.  The North Lamar Panthers and Pantherette’s take on Liberty Eylau on the road. Softball begins at 6. Baseball starts at 7:30.  Prairiland will host New Boston starting with Softball at 5, followed by baseball at 7:30. While the Chisum Mustangs travel to Redwater at 7:30.
MP – District play in area baseball and softball will pick up this evening.  The Mt. Pleasant Tigers are 3-3 in district 15-5A.  They’ll host rival Texas High this evening.  First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.  The Mt. Pleasant Softball team is still in contention for a district title.  At 7-1 the Lady Tigers will in Texarkana to face Texas High.  First pitch is at 6.
The Pittsburg Pirates and Lady Pirates will host the Atlanta Rabbits and Lady Rabbits.  Softball will begin at 6pm.  Varsity baseball will have first pitch at 7:30.  The Chapel Hill Red Devils host the Linden Kildare Tigers at 7 this evening.  With a 4-3 district record the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers host Queen City at 5:30.  Mt. Vernon Baseball begins at 7.
SS – Girls high school soccer playoffs continue tonight for the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats in the Regional Quarterfinal Round.  They’ll face Mansfield Legacy at Terrell’s Memorial Stadium. Match time this evening is scheduled for 6pm.
District baseball and softball picks back up for local teams. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are 2-4 in district 15-5A and will host the Marshall Mavericks.  First pitch is scheduled for 7.  The Lady Cat softball team will travel to Marshall to face the Lady Mavericks.  At 5-3 Sulphur Springs softball is currently 3rd in district. Game time is at 6pm.   And With a 4-3 district record the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers host Queen City at 5:30.  Mt. Vernon Baseball begins at 7.
In Major League Baseball the Texas Rangers pick up an opening day win 3-2 over the Seattle Mariners, despite picking up only one hit coming off the bat of Prince Fielder………..The Rangers would go on to take the lead when Delino Deshields scored on a Mariners Error.  Starting pitcher Cole Hamels had a solid outing going seven innings and giving up two runs on four hits.  The Rangers play game two today against Seattle.  Texas will send Martin Perez to the hill.  First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is scheduled for 7:05.
And in what will go down as one of the greatest finishes in sports history the Villanova Wildcats defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels 77-74.  with 4.3 seconds remaining, UNC’s Marcus Paige tied the game on a double clutching three pointer, but on the other end Kris Jenkins knocked down a triple of his own, only this time with no time left on the clock of the Tar Heels to respond.
