Softball Playoff Results Plus Darvish Makes Rehab Start in Frisco



Paris – Four class 4A athletes from Paris and North Lamar have qualified for the State Track and Field Meet. North Lamar’s Baylee Chappell won the area in the high jump, while Trey Scudder along with Paris’ Quez Allen and Tierra Yates finished 2nd in their respective events. The state meet will be May 14th at the University of Texas.

The North Lamar Pantherette softball team swept Tyler Chapel Hill winning game two on Saturday 15-0. Next up in the area round North lamar softball will take on the Crandall Lady Pirates. Game one on MIX 107.7 is Friday at 6pm in Grand Saline. Honey Grove advances after winning two of three over Blue Ridge. Rivercrest sweeps James Bowie. While the Detroit Lady Eagle’s season comes to an and two games to none at the hands of Avery.

Mount Pleasant – In the opening round of high school softball playoffs the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers sweep Whitehouse 4-2 and 7-3. Next up, the Lady Tigers will meet up for a three game set in the area round against Mansfield Legacy. Game one is Friday at 7pm. Game two is Saturday at 11am with game three to follow if necessary.

The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs also pick up a bi-district sweep over New Boston winning 7-4 and 8-1. Next up, the Lady Mustangs will face Van Alstyne.

Meanwhile, the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers and Pittsburg Lady Pirates saw their seasons come to an end. Mt. Vernon fell to Hooks 3-1, and 7-2, while the Lady Pirates fall in a close and decisive game three to Bullard 3-2.

Sulphur Springs – In the opening round of high school softball playoffs the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats sweep Corsicana 9-4 and 7-6 to advance. Next up, the Lady Cats will meet up with Waxahachie in the area round. The Commerce Lady Tigers also advance after defeating Grand Saline 8-0. Their Area round opponent will be the Hooks Lady Hornets who defeated eliminated Mt. Vernon in a two game sweep. 3-1 and 7-2. Lone Oak and Alba-Golden also saw their season’s come to an end. Lone Oak fell to Edgewood in two games 4-0 and 12-2. Alba Golden dropped a one game playoff to Van Alstyne. 6-1. And Sulphur Bluff falls to 2-0 to Harleton.

Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers fall to the Los Angeles Angels 9-6. Texas won two out of three in the series. Roogie Odor was 3 of 5 at the plate with an RBI. Tom Wilhelmsen was dealth the loss on the mound. The Rangers fall to 14-11 on the season and remain in first place in the AL West. Next, Texas will be on the road in Toronto this evening. Yu Darvish made first rehab start after his 2015 Tommy John surgery. In two innings work he gave up no hits, one walk, had two strikeouts and hit 97 twice on the radar. His target date back with the Rangers is May 27th.

The Dallas Stars drop game two of the Western Conference Semi-Finals 4-3 in overtime against St. Louis. The series between the Stars and Blues is now even 1-1. Game three is tomorrow at 8:30.

And the Dallas Cowboys finish a defense heavy draft this weekend. The Cowboys take Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith in the 2nd round. Nebraska Defensive Tackle Maliek Collins in the 3rd and Oklahoma Sooner Defensive End Charles Tapper in the 4th. Dallas also used a 4th round pick on Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott and a 6th round selection on former Baylor basketball Star Rico Gathers, who’s projected to play Tight End.
