GOP officials have reportedly canvassed all the votes from the March 1st primary election and have determined that State Representative Bryan Hughes will face 2nd place finisher State Representative David Simpson in the runoff election for State Senate District 1. A Republican Party of Texas spokesman said Simpson edged 3rd place finisher James “Red” Brown by 13 votes. There are no democratic candidates, so whoever wins the runoff will win the seat in the Senate. Senate district 1 includes 16 counties in Northeast Texas, including Lamar, Titus, Camp, Cass, Franklin, Morris, Upshur and Wood.
