Storms Wreak Havoc In NE Texas And SE Oklahoma

First Responders from throughout the area were busy Wednesday afternoon and evening as strong to severe storms containing large hail and high winds roared through the area.  The entire area was under a tornado watch, and multiple tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued. More than a dozen homes were damaged in Fannin County. There were numerous reports of other damage as well as downed trees and power lines, but no major injuries.

Several tornadoes were reported in areas of north and east Texas as well as Southeast Oklahoma on Wednesday, causing significant damage in Canton but no major injuries. Tornadoes were reported near Rockwall, Greenville, and Grand Saline and there were several dozen reports of funnel clouds that didn’t reach the ground. A reported tornado caused significant damage at a development in Cedar Creek Lake. There were reports of a tornado in McCurtain County about 11 miles west of Idabel.

The National Weather Service has confirmed several tornadoes that touched down in East Texas Wednesday. A large tornado caused major damage in Canton, particularly the downtown area. The NWS also confirmed a tornado near Leesburg in Camp County. Four homes were destroyed in Kaufman County. Grand Saline Police Department reported a funnel cloud on the ground in the area but the weather service did not officially confirm it.
