Kernal was named Southland Player of the Week.
FRISCO – DesiRay Kernal from the Southland Conference leading Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team is this week’s Southland Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Kernal (Newton, Kan.) averaged 17 points per game and eight rebounds in the two Lion wins last week. She totaled 18 points and eight rebounds in the win at Houston Christian while scoring 16 and eight rebounds at home against Lamar. She is fourth in the conference in rebounding, eighth in field goal percentage, and sixth in steals.
It is the first weekly award for Kernal for this season as a player in the Southland Conference and NCAA Division I, while it is her second weekly honor in her career. She received one during the 2020-21 season. It is the third weekly honor for the Lions this season.
The Lions are on the road this weekend against New Orleans on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
