Micky Ferdinand was named Southland Field Athlete of the Week.

FRISCO – Texas A&M University-Commerce track & field student-athlete Micky Ferdinand has been selected as the Southland Conference men’s field athlete of the week on Wednesday afternoon.

Ferdinana (Micoud, Saint Lucia) recorded two top-six performances at the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Oklahoma, last weekend. He cleared 6 feet 11 inches (2.11m) in the high jump, which tied for the best mark at the meet, and led the Southland Conference and tied for second in the South Central Region. He also competed in the pole vault, taking sixth with a mark of 15 feet 1 inch (4.60m), which was sixth at the meet and third in the Southland this season.

It is the first weekly honor for the Lions as members of the Southland Conference and NCAA Division I, as well as the first for Ferdinand.

The Lions split the squad with two meets this weekend. One contingent moves out to Boulder, Colorado, for the Colorado Invitational, and the other heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the UNM Team Open. Both meets run Friday-Saturday.
