Wednesday’s Sports

NBA

Game 7 of the 2021 NBA Finals, as of now, would be played on July 22. The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, as of now, would be the next day. And when presented with this potential scheduling problem, San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich, who will coach USA Basketball men’s national team at the next Olympics, came up with a swift, very lighthearted solution. “I don’t think we’re going to let the finals go seven games.” With that settled, we move to college.

NCAA

The Baylor Lady Bears defeated South Florida 67-62 on Tuesday and, in doing so, became the 15th program in Division I women’s basketball history to achieve 1,000 wins.

Tuesday afternoon, the SFA men’s basketball team announced another change to its 2020-21 schedule. They added a non-conference tilt against McNeese on Friday (Dec 4) at William R. Johnson Coliseum. The news comes in tandem with the cancelation of Saturday’s contest against Alcorn State due to COVID issues.

HIGH SCHOOL

Forney canceled the football game Friday with Sulphur Springs. The Wildcats are looking for a replacement while the 9th-grade and junior varsity will play as scheduled. Sulphur Springs’ district wrapped up last week with Ennis as No. 1 after beating North Forney. The district games have no meaning as they finish out the season. Ennis will be at Greenville, Royce City takes on North Forney, and Crandall goes up against Corsicana.

The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Tuesday and handed down decisions on student-athletes’ eligibility and issue penalties for UIL rules violations. Campbell High School head football coach Jason Crow and Granbury Acton Middle School football coach Shawn Pope were denied appeals of an ejection from a contest and were issued the automatic penalty of a public reprimand, one-year probation, and additional training.

Terrell did in Sulphur Springs’ Lady Cats 46-39 Tuesday night while the guy’s picked up another win, 47-44 over Rockwall.
