The Lady Patriots will take on Beckville while the Pantherettes face Rusk. Meanwhile, the Chisum Lady Mustangs fall to the Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs in straight sets ending the Lady Mustangs season.
Mount Pleasant – Last night the Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs come up with a three-set sweep over the Chisum Lady Mustangs, 25-12, 25-20, and 25-19. The Lady Mustangs advance to the Area round where they’ll take on New Diana. The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers advanced on Monday night with a win over Hooks while the Rivercrest Lady Rebels enjoy a first-round bye before making their 2017 post-season debut tomorrow night against Timpson at Longview High School at 6:30.
Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats saw their season come to an end after falling in straight sets 25-12, 25-23 and 25-23. Sulphur Springs ends their year as district champions. The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers advance to the Area Round. Yantis will take on Leveretts this weekend. Cumby will be in action this weekend following a win over Maud on Monday night while Sulphur Bluff and Miller Grove have a bye into the Regional Quarterfinal round.
Already an instant classic, the World Series will go seven games after the L-A Dodgers stay alive with a 3-1 win over the Astros last night in game six. Joc Pederson provided the insurance with a solo blast in the 7th inning. With the series knotted at three games apiece it’s winner-take-all tonight at Dodger Stadium. L-A sends former Texas Ranger, Yu Darvish to the hill, Lance McCullers Jr. will throw for the ‘Stros. First pitch tonight is set for 7:20 pm.
Dallas Cowboys running back, Ezekiel Elliott is being forced to serve his six-game suspension after a judge in the Southern District of New York denied Elliott’s appeal yesterday. The All-Pro back can still send the ruling to the Second Circuit Appeals Court. Alfred Morris, Darren McFadden and Rod Smith are expected to shoulder the load in Elliott’s likely absence. He’ll be eligible to return December 17, against Oakland.
And the first College Football Playoff Rankings are released. It’s the Georgia Bulldogs taking week one’s top spot, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 2. Notre Dame is 3 while Clemson checks in at 4. OU is on the outside at 5 while TCU is 8th.
