New COVID Funding Sought

Democrats are pushing a $10 billion COVID funding package, but Republicans want a controversial border security requirement added. Before voting, the GOP wants an extension of a health rule that the U.S. has used to expedite deportations. Senator John Cornyn of Texas says that COVID is still a significant issue at the border. Last month the border patrol made over 221,000 encounters at the southern border. That’s the highest number in the previous two decades.
