East Texas Jail Guard Dies Assisting Inmate

A Gregg County Correctional Officer has died while trying to help in inmate who was suffering a medical emergency. Both the inmate and Officer Robert Ransom were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Ransom could not be revived and died of an apparent heart attack. He was 62. The inmate was treated and returned to jail.
