Workforce Solutions Board To Assist Laid Off Mine Workers

The Northeast Texas Workforce Solutions Board has activated a Rapid Response Team to assist workers who will be laid off by the closing of the coal mines in Sulphur Springs, Mt. Pleasant, and Winfield. The layoffs are scheduled for April 29. The team will assess the job skills of the workers being laid off, and find available positions in the area suiting those skills. Job training will also be available. The Power Plant in Mt Pleasant will remain open but use coal from the western United States, which is considered cleaner.
