Cowboys Sign Morris In Today’s Sports Update

With Ezekiel Elliott’s holdout at four days, the Dallas Cowboys will sign veteran Alfred Morris, the team announced Monday night. Elliott was flying to Cabo as the Cowboys held their first padded practice of camp on Tuesday. Cowboys continue to speak with his agent regarding a contract extension, and they have swapped proposals, but sources indicate that nothing is close at the moment. Morris played for the Cowboys in 2016-17 and was with the San Francisco 49ers last season.

The New Orleans Saints have released wide receiver Cameron Meredith just four days into his second training camp with the team, coach Sean Payton said Monday. The former Chicago Bears’ standout was hoping to finally return from a major 2017 knee injury, but Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis both said it came down to a numbers issue at the position.

The Miami Dolphins have fired offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and replaced him with Dave DeGuglielmo. Flaherty was hired in February shortly after Brian Flores took over as head coach, but the Dolphins offensive line has struggled throughout spring and summer. This move was football-based with nothing to do with an off-the-field incident.

Don’t forget the first NFL preseason game of the year is Thursday night with the Hall of Fame game. It will be the Atlanta Falcons and the Denver Broncos. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.

Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz said he is glad to be home with family after a botched assassination attempt in his native Dominican Republic. More than seven weeks after he was shot, Ortiz said on Instagram in his first public comments, “Being at home and look at my family celebrating that I’m here safe is priceless.” Ortiz was released from a Boston hospital on Friday.

The Texas Rangers start a two-game series at home tonight with Seattle. First pitch at 7:05 pm. They will be off Thursday and will play a three-game homestand against Detroit starting Friday.
